Jack Milner: Kommetdieding has been priced up as the 9-2 favourite to win the Grade 1 Cape Town Met, presented by World Sports Betting, at Kenilworth on Saturday 29 January.

The Harold Crawford and Michelle Rix-trained son of Elusive Fort finished a 2.25-length second behind Jet Dark in last Saturday’s L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate over 1600m, but last season’s Durban July winner is expected to be better over the 2000m on the Met.

Rainbow Bridge might not have triumphed in the Queen’s Plate but is a two-time winner of the Met and seems to save his best or this event.

The seven-year-old is at 5-1 and is joint second favourite with Grade 1 Cape Guineas champion Double Superlative.

Linebacker disappointed in the Queen’s Plate and is trading at 11-2 while Jet Dark, probably because he is questionable over the distance, is at 13-2.

There are two other Grade 1 races on the Met Day card, the Cape Flying Championship over 1000m and the Majorca Stakes over 1600m.

Based on the betting, bookmakers see the Cape Flying Championship as a two-horse affair between Rio Querari and Real Gone Kid, and they are trading at 15-10 and 33-10 respectively.

Captain’s Ransom won the Grade 1 Cartier Paddock Stakes over 1800m last Saturday and the drop to 1600m in the Majorca Stakes should be even more to her liking. On that basis, 11-10 looks a good price, but Cape Fillies Guineas winner Chansonette, a close second in the Majorca Stakes, stands out as the main threat and she is quoted at 5-1.
